Road Maps (It Takes a Crooked Man to Walk a Crooked Mile)
By Emanuel A. Winston, Middle East analyst & commentator December 5, 2005
Map of Israel
Those words misuse the language and mislead those of the public who think there really is a "Road Map" for peace in Israel. Road Maps are merely the product of word smiths in the bowels of what’s called "Foggy Bottom", that is the U.S. State Department or the Spin Meister in the White House.
People and the pundits of the Media are beginning to use the words "Road Map" to speak about what they believe are failed policies in Iraq.
The "Road Map" jargon had its start when the Bush Family Dynasty and its head spokespersona, Condoleezza Rice, used this expression as the guide or solution to conflict in the Middle East between Israel and the Arabs called Palestinians as well as all other Arab and/or Muslim nations.
The single fact is that there is NO "Road Map" but merely another hodge-podge of simplistic ideas and wishful thinking coming out of the Arabist State Department, Father Bush and, always skulking in the background, James Baker with his Intelligence Institute at Rice University advising State and Bush. "The Road Map" concept was first mentioned by Sec.State Colin Powell on November 19, 2001. In brief, it was a plan hostile to Israel’s sovereignty and dangerous to her security. It was an excellent club with which to beat Israel. President Bush speech of June 24, 2002 laid out the basic goals and principles which he called a "Road Map". Sharon offered 14 reservations to the Road Map but this was wholly ignored by Bush and Rice.
THE ROAD MAP MIRAGE
Did you really believe that "The Road Map" was any kind of an official agreement written as an agreed document and voted into law by the Knesset. "The Road Map" was adopted by Sharon and his Cabinet merely by a show of hands. This was never a binding agreement and Sharon is lying if he says so. It is not a treaty; it is not a covenant between nations. It is merely another one of Sharon’s dictatorial pronouncements which the nation has come to believe is a legal agreement....it is NOT! But, then again when you, the Prime Minister, adopts all levers of power as a dictator, he can do whatever he pleases.
They say that Sharon will win handily in the coming March Knesset elections. One cannot help but be reminded of the elections in Syria, Iran, Egypt where most of the people would vote for a dictatorial leader like brain-washed zombies. Only after they have been brutalized and made vulnerable will the awakening take place but by that time they are virtual prisoners to a dictatorial regime. To escape, they would have to overthrow the current Government and defy its Police and bring all slaved to the dictating leader.
The Road Map that Sharon keeps speaking about and his personal commitment to the "Crooked Road" is making more than that...his personal commitment. It is not the nation’s commitment other than the trick of telling the public over and over again that the nation is bound by "The Road Map". Collaborators, as always, are the Leftist Media who refuse to do a straight forward expos? about "The Road Map".
Israel has no obligations to this national suicide pact, entered into by a man who shows all the indications of a bi-polar disorder which used to be called Manic Depressive. Why else would Sharon first build and then destroy virtually everything he built. Sharon is anxious to erase his past like every tyrant, after he has savaged the nation. He wants what has evaded him for much of his life - namely recognition by the nations, by the gentiles and even by the Muslim Arabs.
Sharon knows that he is old and doesn’t have much time left. He wants the accolades of the Europeans, the Arabists, parts of America and the insidious Left of the Jews. In the end, his historic legacy will be the liquidation of the Jewish nation and his grave will likely end up in the sewers of Gaza, if the grateful Arab Muslims have their way.
One could call Bill Clinton’s bumbling in the Middle East a "Road Map" which, like the Bush Road Map, meanders often to nowhere. But, because it has a title "The Road Map, we presume it to be well thought out with deeply considered solutions. Hate to disappoint you but, it has none of that. It smacks of the same uninformed planning and lack of vision (let alone knowledge) with which we are now facing in Iraq.
Looking behind the words one finds motivation that has suspicious components.
Bush and the Arabist State Department long known as a visceral enemy of the Jewish State want Israel squeezed to merely a sliver of Land. Here the motivation is to appease the oil producers like the Saudis among other Arab/Muslim nations. Bush-Rice-Baker are part of regime which started a process that took over under the phrase "Road Map" but, whose intention is to remove Israel who is viewed as an irritant to Arab/Muslim vaunted sensitivities. Jews and Christians are ‘infidels’ which is what Muslims call all non-Muslims and they will not be appeased.
It’s not that Bush or the State Department actually have a personal fondness for Arab Muslims but, those countries that are the source of foreign oil does make them pucker up. Granted, Father Bush did have an unusual relationship with the Kings of Saudi Arabia wherein he could and did promise then Crown Prince Abdullah that his son (now President) would look after his interests - or words to that effect.
Sharon, for reasons yet to be explored properly, has latched onto the phrase "Road Map" even though it would be better described as "Road Kill". This became Sharon’s political shield as he frequently invoked the claim that he was - Only Following the "Road Map". The abortive plan produced nothing other than the weakening of the pillars that support Israel as a free democracy under attack both within and without.
The "Road Map" jargon is merely a crooked path to appease the oil producers and serve the interests of Jew-haters both in Washington and in nations well known for their bias. Recall the poem: "It takes a crooked man to walk a crooked mile"...well, that’s the Bush-Rice-Baker "Road Map".
Have you ever wondered how the phrase "Road Map" become the irrevocable policy of Bush and Sharon? How did such a slogan become a fixed policy which came out of a non-directional series of thoughts from a hostile State Department, guided by people like James Baker III?
As for Sharon, he certainly fits the poem as he stumbles down the "Crooked Road" - always taking the Left Fork.
